Fiacable Follows in Family Footsteps; Inks for Hoosiers

Bishop Dwenger’s Vinny Fiacable has signed his letter of intent to play at Indiana University. He plans to major in Finance. Fiacable announced his commitment via Twitter back on April sixth. He got to put pen to paper this afternoon as part of college football’s early signing period.

“I’m very excited to progress and go to the next level,” Fiacable said. “All I can say is I’m really excited to go down and be a Hoosier.”

The Hoosiers continue to improve under Tom Allen, now in his fourth full season at the helm. After going 8-5 last year, Indiana finished the regular season at 6-1 this year.

“I can just tell that when they’re playing, they all rally behind Coach Allen, they all love playing football, and they play it the right way,” Fiacable said. “They play it hard, tough, and physical. I’m just excited to be a part of Tom Allen’s program and the Hoosiers.”

Hoosier football runs in Vinny Fiacable’s family. He has multiple relatives who played at IU. For example, his father Steve and his brother Mike both played there. He is eager to follow in their footsteps.

“They introduced me to IU football games,” Fiacable said. “If it weren’t for them, my family probably wouldn’t [have gone] to as many as they did. So, it’s because of them that I really found a love for IU.”

Vinny’s dad and brother proved to be huge influences toward him.

“They’ve taught me the game, they taught me how to be tough, how to be mentally tough, how to fight through adversity, how to keep going when you’re not feeling so well,” Vinny said. “And they’ve taught me the game in general, and how to fight through adversity and pain.”

Vinny Fiacable has been part of several successful Bishop Dwenger teams. He was a sophomore when the Saints won State in 2018. Since then, he has been a part of a Dwenger team that has reached Regionals each of the last years (which they won in 2019). Learning how to deal with adversity was one of the key lessons he learned from his time at Dwenger.

“Especially this year with COVID [19] it was really hard to reach the team and get everyone rallied behind each other but we did that,” Fiacable said. “We fought hard until the end, and I’m just so proud of this team this year.”
