At 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, Carroll High School officially opened their new stadium for football, track and field, and marching band. The new stadium is a part of a major overhaul of multiple athletic facilities at the school, which NACS superintendent Chris Himsel believes will not only have an impact on football, but all outdoor athletics at Carroll.
“It’s called the football field project, but it’s really not. It’s a site improvement project,” Himsel said. “We’ve been able to address some maintenance and upgrades to the baseball field, the softball field, soccer got new improvements and new practice fields, the marching band got upgrades and new practice fields, the tennis courts were upgraded, as well as football and track. And then we have a locker room now for all outdoor athletes that we’ve never had before.”
The new football stadium will have a capacity of about 6,800, divided into 4,800 seats on the home side and 2,000 seats on the visitor side. Key features of the stadium include a 92-foot press box, an elevator to press box level, a turf playing surface, a gameday store, upgraded concessions, outdoor locker rooms with a laundry facility inside, and seating for Carroll’s “Neon Nation” student section. The Chargers will host their first football game at the new stadium on August 20 against the Bishop Luers Knights.
