Griffin Eifert Heading to Notre Dame; Will Follow in His Brother’s Footsteps

Bishop Dwenger’s Griffin Eiffert has accepted an opportunity to join Notre Dame’s football program as a preferred walk-on. He chose Notre Dame over Purdue and Miami of Ohio. He plans on majoring in management.

Eifert’s commitment was made public on Monday when WANE TV’s Glenn Marini posted the news to Twitter.

“First and foremost, [he’s an] outstanding young man, hard worker, great leader, extremely coachable, and a great competitor,” Dwenger head coach Jason Garrett said. “So when you put all those things together, he’s a coach’s dream in terms of that.”

Griffin is not the first in his family to play for the Irish. His older brother Tyler was a tight end in South Bend for four years. He was Notre Dame’s leading receiver in 2012 when they played Alabama in the BCS Championship Game. Watching his brother play at Notre Dame played a huge role in Griffin’s decision to go there.

“I grew up watching him, and I knew his friends that went there,” Griffin Eifert said. “And just seeing all of his friends…and the bond they had just really inspired me to go there.”

It was just a few weeks ago when he got to visit the campus and meet head coach Brian Kelly. He got to go to the team’s first spring practice this year; which was on March Fifth.

“They actually invited me up to their first spring practice, which was pretty cool,” Eifert said. “I walked around campus, {and got to see} where everything was at.”

At Dwenger Eifert played both wide receiver and free safety. He plans on playing wide receiver at Notre Dame, but is open to playing on defense.

“You never know what’s going to happen,” Eifert said. “If I put on some weight and speed, I might see a spot on defense, but you never know.”

Eifert greatly appreciates his time at Dwenger. He was part of a Saints’ team that won a state championship in 2018.

“It was super special, just going through all the traditions that have been around for 50 plus years,” Eifert said. “And just [being] part of the culture, the brotherhood that comes along with it. I know I’ll have a bunch of friends after college.”

One of the lessons he learned from his time at Dwenger was the value of hard work.

“Nothing is given,” Eifert said. “And I know going to Notre Dame that it’s not going to be easy, and that there’s going to be some challenges. I’m looking forward to the challenge and just embracing everything.”
