Erik Arietta was a zookeeper and biology student in Venezuela. One night he decided to open the cage of the Burmese Python he was looking after. The snake ended up getting ahold of Erik and you can imagine the rest. Some cages you should stay out of. But on Friday night, there will be one cage opening on State Road 9. Columbia City vs. Leo: CC by 1. The Eagles finally broke what seemed to be the East Noble curse. Both teams are playing great in all three phases. The showdown at sundown on State Road 9 is the only place to be this Friday night!
New Haven vs. East Noble: East Noble by 7. The Knights offense matches up well against this defensive front. East Noble will be mad after being taken to the woodshed by CC. The running game should be there for East Noble. So long as they keep Mylan Graham to one score and not three, they win.
Bellmont vs. DeKalb: DeKalb by 10. When you get a wounded cobra in a corner, sooner or later that snake is going to strike. Bellmont has not given up on their season. And one of these weeks someone is going to be the unlucky recipient of that strike. DeKalb’s offense is a highlight reel. They should win. So long as the defense shows up as well.
Scheme note for the week: Last week I went off the script with a comment about in-game coaching adjustments. This week – another part of high school football that can impact the game. Student sections, cheerleading, the band, and the fans. The CC Birdcage can get awfully loud and help with home-field advantage. But the Lions fans leave the den and travel well. Both schools feature top-class cheerleading squads and fantastic marching bands. To top it off, both teams are playing their own brands of great three-phase football. For this week’s scheme note, I want to see which of these two schools can use their fanbases to their advantage. The social media buildup this week will be fantastic. And Friday night will not disappoint. Tip of the cap to all of the members of the program who are not on the field playing the game, but make it that much more exciting!
