Week 7 SAC Power Rankings: Top Teams Continue to Roll Ahead of Rivalry Week

#1: Bishop Luers

Record: 6-0

Last Week: #1

Week 7: at Bishop Dwenger

Luers, like many teams this week, didn’t have to play their top starters for very long. However, Carson Clark did make the most of his 14 attempts on Friday, throwing for 2 touchdowns. He’s thrown for 1,534 yards this season and is quickly approaching James Knapke’s SAC career passing yards record of 5,983 yards. More importantly however, he’s got his team in the driver’s seat with a chance to beat Dwenger for the first time in 6 years.

#2: Carroll

Record: 5-1

Last Week: #2

Week 7: vs Homestead

Just one week after making Doug Dinan the winningest coach in Carroll football history, the Chargers won their 300th game in program history on Friday night. They did it behind 7 sacks on defense and their second shutout of the season. Their last 4 wins have all come by double-digits, which is the perfect way to enter their massive matchup with Homestead.

#3: Snider

Record: 4-1

Last Week: #3

Week 7: at Northrop

Snider made sure to crush any chances of an upset early, going up 28-0 at the half. They continued to get it done on both sides of the ball in the second, winning 42-6 thanks to 124 yards and 3 total touchdowns from quarterback Luke Haupert. The physical Panthers will try to stay hot against Northrop.

#4: Homestead

Record: 4-2

Last Week: #4

Week 7: at Carroll

Homestead entered the North Side game in a tough spot, with a brutal loss to Snider the week prior and Carroll looming the week after. However, instead of looking ahead or behind, the Spartans focused on doing their job Friday, taking care of the Legends in a 49-7 rout. Peyton Slaven was a very efficient 19 for 24, with 279 yards passing and 4 touchdowns, while Nate Anderson hauled in 6 receptions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. Homestead has been resilient this year and has one last big game to leave their mark on this season.

#5: Bishop Dwenger

Record: 4-2

Last Week: #5

Week 7: vs Bishop Luers

Dwenger got exactly what they needed after a rough couple of weeks: a blowout win. Concordia was unable to do anything to stop the Dwenger offense, which looked much more balanced this week. The Saints threw for 179 yards and 4 touchdowns, while also rushing for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. If this is a sign of a turnaround for Dwenger, it could not have come at a better time, as Bishop Luers makes their biennial voyage to Shields Field next week.

#6: North Side

Record: 1-5

Last Week: #6

Week 7: at South Side

After yet another poor outing for the Legends offense, it’s hard to believe that this is the same team that ran up and down the field on Snider in the first week of the season. North Side has looked much different since then, only scoring more than 20 points on one occasion after that contest. With their toughest games in the rearview, it will be interesting to see how much fight this team shows as they try to salvage the final three games of their season.

#7: Northrop

Record: 2-4

Last Week: #7

Week 7: vs Snider

This week, it was Northrop who had the misfortune of running into the Bishop Luers Knights. In a 56-0 loss, the Bruins couldn’t do much of anything and while this team has notched a few solid wins, they’ll round out the year with Snider, North Side, and Dwenger. It will take a major effort for Northrop to finish the regular season strong.

#8: Wayne

Record: 1-5

Last Week: #8

Week 7: vs Concordia

The rushing attack that has guided the Generals this season just couldn’t break through against Snider. Lamarion Nelson was able to rush for 88 yards, but he was never able to find the end zone. Wayne will face Concordia next week before having to play at Homestead and Carroll to finish off the year.

#9: Concordia

Record: 1-5

Last Week: #9

Week 7: at Wayne

Aside from a late touchdown, Concordia struggled to make an impact on offense against Dwenger. They haven’t been able to score over 20 points in this ugly 5 game losing streak. They’ll have an opportunity to get things going at Wayne next week.

#10: South Side

Record: 1-4

Last Week: #10

Week 7: vs North Side

South Side didn’t even have a chance to blink before Carroll was up 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. It wasn’t a pretty game for the Archers and their last three weeks against the likes of North Side, Luers, and Homestead won’t be any easier.
