The Sideline Swami’s Week 12 Sectional Picks

THE SWAMI SCALE

  1. HOMESTEAD (9-1): After a sluggish start, Sparty spoiled Snider’s upset shot with 28-10 victory.
  2. BISHOP DWENGER (9-1): BD hangs onto the second spot after annihilating Anderson last week.
  3. LEO (10-1): Talk about hanging on, the Lions are alive by a thread for the second week in a row.
  4. NORWELL (10-1): Now it gets serious for the Knights. Beat a solid SAC squad, Swami will salute you.
  5. EAST NOBLE (8-3): The Knights have Rowan Zolman this time around. Kain Carico also returns.
  6. EASTSIDE (10-1): If the Blazers want to stay in the Top 10, they must defend their sectional title.
  7. SOUTH ADAMS (10-0): These Starfires are on fire with the spirit; another blowout win forthcoming?
  8. CONCORDIA (5-5): Coach Mannigel is back from the Q; the Cadets are the healthiest they’ve been all year.
  9. BISHOP LUERS (5-6): The Knights make a return trip to the Swami Scale, which is good to see.
  10. NORTH SIDE (5-5): Well, you got your rematch Legends. Now, it’s time to show out vs. the Saints.

CLASS 6A (SECTIONAL 3)WARSAW (8-2) at HOMESTEAD (9-1): I’m taking Sparty because I like Homestead’s “D” better than the Tigers’ unit. If Braeden Hardwick is unable to go, however, this one may be tighter than originally thought.SWAMI SAYS: Homestead by 14

CLASS 5A (SECTIONAL 11)NORTH SIDE (5-5) at BISHOP DWENGER (9-1): My sources tell me that both Vinny Fiacable and Devon Tippmann are projected to play for the Saints, but neither will be at 100 percent. This one will be won in the trenches.SWAMI SAYS: Dwenger by 12

CLASS 4A (SECTIONAL 19)EAST NOBLE (8-3) at LEO (10-1): When these two met in Week 5, a close game turned into a 24-0 Leo win after a pair of EN fumbles. The Knights are better than they were then, but the Lions are getting Mason Sheron back in the fold. This one’s decided on special teams. Speaking of special, the Upset Special.SWAMI SAYS: East Noble by 1

CLASS 3A (SECTIONAL 27)NORWELL (10-1) at CONCORDIA (5-5): If there’s a coin-flip game on tonight’s docket, it’s this one. Two of the best defenses in the area clash at Zollner, but which Concordia offense shows up? I’m seeing Tyler Grossman and Luke Speckhard coming up with some huge catches.SWAMI SAYS: Concordia by 4

CLASS 2A (SECTIONAL 35)EASTSIDE (10-1) at BISHOP LUERS (5-6): The Blazers beat Bishop Luers last year in Butler, 13-6, to win their first-ever sectional crown. There’s no way Eastside can duplicate the feat at venerable Luersfield tonight, right? Wrong! Give me the Blazers in a mild upset.SWAMI SAYS: Eastside by 3

CLASS 1A (SECTIONAL 43)MADISON-GRANT (3-5) at SOUTH ADAMS (10-0): SA senior QB James Arnold needs just three touchdown tosses to hit the century mark for his career. Will he get them tonight? I believe he will, in fact, all before intermission. Maybe five or six tuddies. Starfires by a bundle.SWAMI SAYS: South Adams by 45

CLASS 1A (SECTIONAL 44)SOUTHWOOD (11-0) at ADAMS CENTRAL (8-2): The unblemished Knights are a touchdown favorite by Sagarin, but that wild computer man doesn’t have a magical set of crystal balls like the large Swam does. If you’re going to rely on polls, you should always go with the Swami’s. Upset Special II.SWAMI SAYS: Adams Central by 1
