Semi-State Preview

5A

Bishop Dwenger

Opponent: at Valparaiso

One team remains in the SAC. The Bishop Dwenger Saints are on track for a shot at another state championship. Many of the players that made a difference in last year’s run have been a part of this year’s. QB Brenden Lytle (1,840 yds, 61% comp, 17 TD) is a great game manager and his top two receivers Michael Ledo (39 rec, 509 yds, 4 TD) and Griffin Eifert (27 rec, 448 yds, 7 TD) have been consistent targets that have contributed in the passing game. The fabled Dwenger rushing attack has been led by RB’s Louie Tippmann (527 yds, 5.3 yds/car, 3 TD) and Devon Tippmann (414 yds, 4.9 yds/car, 12 TD), with Patrick Finley (494 yds, 8.1 yds/car, 6 TD) and Tobe Eke (374 yds, 6.9 yds/car, 5 TD) taking charge as of late.

They’ll be on the road this week for a game at Valparaiso. The Vikings are a perfect 12-0 on the year and have outscored opponents by an astonishing 527-110 points. Senior QB CJ Opperman (1,352 yds, 61% comp, 13 TD) has been a steady presence at quarterback with Luke Patterson (36 rec, 555 yds, 6 TD) being his leading receiver. The biggest threat on offense comes at running back with Tommy Burbee (1,536 yds, 8.1 yds/car, 21 TD) having a great season, with Hayden Vinyard (641 yds, 6.6 yds/car, 7 TD) doing a nice job of taking some of the pressure off him. It’s important to note that Valparaiso went all the way to semi-state last year in 6A football, where they then lost to Carmel. The Vikings appear to be just as strong this year and will make this a tough game for Dwenger.
