Sectional Championships Preview

6A Sectional 3

Homestead

Opponent: vs Carroll

Homestead had to earn their first win of the postseason, but all that matters now is that they got the win. They will have their hands full again this week, when they take on Carroll. QB Luke Goode (2,431 yds, 62% comp, 25 TD) will have to avoid making mistakes, as he’s done a good job of all year, and continue to keep his 25/1 touchdown to interception ratio up. We’ll see if he can lead the highest scoring offense in the SAC (388 points, 38.8 point/game) to yet another victory over the Chargers.

Carroll

Opponent: at Homestead

Carroll was probably the most impressive looking SAC team of last week, but they’ll need to begin preparing for another massive rematch with Homestead. Once again, QB Jeff Becker (1,852 yds, 53% comp, 19 TD) will have to be on his game. The defense, which created 3 turnovers against Snider, will have to find a way to make more big plays against the Spartans. However, if they aren’t able to play as well or even better than they did against Snider, it could be another long night for the Chargers.

5A Sectional 11

Bishop Dwenger

Opponent: vs Northrop

Don’t expect the Saints to take Northrop lightly. They will want to beat the Bruins by a whole lot more than 2 points this time around. It will start and end with RB Louie Tippmann (493 yds, 5.9 yds/car, 2 TD), WR/RB Patrick Finley (386 yds, 7.3 yds/car, 4 TD), and the Dwenger offensive line being able to bully Northrop and finish drives. Not turning the ball over will be key too, after 2 costly fumbles set the Saints back in the first game. They can’t afford to give Northrop extra opportunities, as they look to become sectional champs, now at 5A, this week.

Northrop

Opponent: at Bishop Dwenger

As long as Northrop can keep the clock running and make it a close, low-scoring game going into the fourth, they’ll get another opportunity to knock off Dwenger. Of course, that’s easier said than done as they’ll need a lot of things to go right for that to happen. Northrop got a good win last week and RB’s Jeremiah Green and Damarius Cowen will both be coming off of 100 yd performances. They’ll need them to be just as effective in order to pull off the upset.

3A Sectional 27

Concordia

Opponent: at Peru

Concordia has been wildly inconsistent this year and needs to regroup after an abysmal game on offense. The Cadets will travel to Peru this Friday to play the 6-5 Peru Tigers, who are led by senior QB Michael Chandler (1,269 yds, 57% comp, 14 TD) and senior RB Daunte Majors (1,012 yds, 14.3 yds/car, 13 TD). The Tigers are a good team and Concordia will need their own QB/RB combo of Brandon Davis (2,063 yds, 52% comp, 16 TD) and Amir Drew (1,063 yds, 5.3 yds/car, 13 TD) to be at their best in order to win.
