Schlegel’s Photo Finish/Weller Sisters’ Dominance Lift Cadets at SAC Meet

Northrop High School hosted the SAC Cross Country Championship Meet. But this meet belonged to the Concordia Cadets.

Cadets’ junior Mallory Weller jumped out by a large margin as she approached the 1,000 meter mark. She would go on to win the girls’ race with a time of 17:26.9. Mallory’s sister Daphne Weller, a freshman, finished second. Her time was 18:36.6. Concordia came up with a score of 20, which was the best team score. All seven Cadet runners finished in the top 10. Hannah Clark finished in fourth place, Lilly Schlicker took sixth, Maddie Gentz took seventh, Riley Zent took eighth, and Ellie Walters took ninth.

In the boys’ race, a trio of Cadets jumped out to an early lead. Will Schlegel, Hunter Panning, and Cillian Hoover were ahead of the pack by the time they reached the 1,000 meter mark. But the race turned into a photo finish between Schlegel and Panning. Schlegel would win by less than a tenth of a second. But he and Panning celebrate as the top two finishers. In fact, the whole team got to celebrate with the best team score. The Cadets score was 23. Hoover finished third, while Zachary Cecil came in eighth, and Karsten Sheets came in ninth.
