Week 6: 58-6 win over South Side

Previous Ranking: #1

Week 7: @ Homestead

The Chargers moved one step closer to a SAC title after a dominant win over the Archers in week 6. This is just the 4th 6-0 start for the Chargers in school history and the first time since 2014. Sophomore Nathan Starks led the way for the Chargers’ offense with 168 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. Defensively the Chargers made big plays all night long forcing 4 turnovers and getting 8 sacks. Ashton Pesetski got three of those sacks for the Chargers while Braden Steely, Hansen Haffner, and Owen Crawford all got an interception. This is a defense that now has 28 sacks, 13 interceptions, and 4 fumble recoveries on the season. In fact, this defense is playing so well that they have only allowed 6 points over the last three weeks. Next week their defense will be put to the test once again as they face their rival the Homestead Spartans who scored 49 points last week in a loss against North Side.

2. Snider (5-1)

The Panthers just keep on rolling as they are now on a 4 game-winning streak. This week Snider just kept finding new ways to score as Kamari Jaurez took two kickoffs to the house and Jason Pierre-Louis got a 90-yard pick-six for the Panthers. The other 4 touchdowns on the night all came on the ground as Uriah Buchanan found the endzone twice while De’jour Johnson and Langston Leavell ran in the other two for the Panthers. Defensively along with the pick 6 from Pierre-Louis, Levi Overholser also got an interception. Linebacker Lukas Rohrbacher also made big plays getting 16 tackles along with one sack. This is a Panthers team that has just seemed to get better and better as the season has gone along and now they will look to once again improve moving forward into week 7 as they face the Northrop Bruins.

3. North Side (4-2)

Week 6: 50-49 win over Homestead

Previous Ranking: #3

Week 7: vs South Side

The Legends got their second statement win of the year on Friday knocking off the Homestead Spartans for the first time in school history. In each of their marquee victories this season the Legends trailed by two scores but then were able to fight their way back into the game and come out on top with a close win. A key reason for their ability to come back and win was their two big playmakers’ dominant performances as Jontae Lambert got 375 total yards and 3 TDs while Brauntae Johnson got 107 yards with 3 TDs. The pass game overall was clicking for the Legends as Bohde Dickerson threw for 245 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively the Legends came up with 4 crucial turnovers. The biggest one being when Davon Doughty stripped the ball from Kam Johnson on Homestead’s final possession, icing the win for the Legends. Lambert and Jamari Pearson also came up with game-changing interceptions for the Legends. Credit also deserves to go to the coaching staff of this Legends squad as they took the risk and opted to go for two down 49-48 with 1:33 left in the game. Brashawn Bassett was able to connect with Doughty for what became the game-winning score. Next week the Legends will look to continue making history as they try for their first 5-2 start since the 2012 season.

Week 7: vs Carroll

The Spartans played a good game against the Legends but once again fell just short of getting the win. Even with the loss the Spartans still have a lot of positives they can take away from this one as the offense was able to move the ball the best they have all season. Quarterback Peyton Slaven threw a career-high 5 touchdown passes as the deep ball was working all night for Homestead. Slaven also showed his ability to be a dual-threat quarterback with 88 yards rushing. Once again Brett Fuchs had an outstanding performance for the Spartans with 150 total yards. One area this Spartans offense is going to look to improve in is protecting the ball as they turned it over 4 times against the Legends. Defensively Homestead has struggled the past two weeks now allowing 7 touchdowns two weeks in a row.

6. Bishop Luers (3-3)

Through six weeks the Knights have not lost or won two games in a row yet this season. They look to change that this week as they will attempt to get a second straight win when they face the Bishop Dwenger Saints.

Next week South will look for their first win of the season during rivalry week when they play North Side.
