Jackson, Seniors & Sophomores Ready to Lead Lady Bruins

After winning the SAC, and going 19-4 last year, Northrop is getting ready for the 2023-2024 girls’ basketball season.

Katie Jackson enters her third year as head coach, after leading the Lady Bruins to back-to-back winning seasons. In addition to last year’s SAC title, Northrop became sectional runner-ups the year before.

Good defense has been one of the Bruins’ keys to success. Last year, the Bruins played 14 games where they gave up less than 40 points. They also had four players who averaged over two steals per game.

This year, Northrop brings back Destini Craig. She played just six games last year, but she’s recovering very well and is able to practice so far. When she was healthy last year, Craig averaged 10.3 points per game and 2.7 steals per game.

Lexi Castator also returns at point guard. She’s coming off a year where she averaged 3.1 assists per game and 4.3 boards per game. Castator is also a quality shooter. Last year she shot 44% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc.

Swynn Jackson and Khala Williams-Thomas are part of the sophomore class. Jackson was Northrop’s leader in steals and assists last year. She recently had surgery and will miss a good portion of the season. But the Bruins expect her to be back around January.
