Eagles, Spartans, and Blazers post good finishes at Schlemmer Invitational

West Noble School Corporation hosted the Chuck Schlemmer Cross Country Invitational today. Columbia City’s Kenya Leitch and Homestead’s Lucy Kramer were in a close battle for first in the girls’ race. Leitch would win the race with a time of 18:14.1. Kramer finished second place, but that would help the Spartans earn the best team score of the day, which was 34. In addition to Kramer; Homestead had three top 10 finishers. Avalyn Goldstone finished sixth, Daisy Niezer finished seventh, and Kaitlynn Hansen finished 10th.

Andrew Strong from Eastside took an early lead in the boys’ race. He eventually started to pull away from Lakeland’s Memphis Martin. Martin would take the lead by the time they reached the 4,000-meter mark. But Strong would retake the lead before they reached the finish line. Strong won the race with a time of 16:01.7.

Columbia City posted a score of 94, which was the best team score in the boys’ race. The Eagles had two top 10 finishers. Gavin Good came in third, and Daniel Mullett came in sixth.
