Today, the West Noble Cross Country Invitational took place in Ligonier, Indiana. For the Columbia City Lady Eagles, it was a day to celebrate.
Kenya Leitch won the girls’ varsity race with a time of 18:02.8, almost a whole minute ahead of second place. Leitch jumped out to an early lead before even reaching the 1,000 meter mark, and she never looked back.
Northrop’s Maren Wilson finished in second place with a time of 19:02.21. She started out behind Leo’s Rowyn Norris, but emerged toward the end of the race to move into second.
Columbia City did take first place in the team standings, with a score of 38. In addition to Leitch, the Eagles got top-10 finishes from Samantha Lickey in sixth, Madelyn Shively in eighth, and Lillian Ralston in ninth.
Eastside’s Andrew Strong picked up another win in the boys’ varsity race. He had Lakeland’s Memphis Martin pushing him for a lot of the race. But as the race went on, Strong padded his lead and won with a time of 15:50.8, which was eight seconds ahead of Martin.
Northrop took first in the boys’ team standings. Their score was 80. Chase Wilson had the best Bruins’ finish, coming in fifth.
