- Bellmont: The only loss on the resume for the Braves came to the #1 team in the state, falling 3-0 to Hamilton Southeastern on September 2nd. Bellmont has only lost three other SETS all year. MaryKate Scheumann and Delaney Lawson are each averaging more than four kills per set. Bellmont faces Adams Central and New Haven early this week before a couple of huge matches this weekend in Angola for the 16-1 Braves.
- Angola: All the Hornets have done is go 10-0 throughout the season’s first four weeks. Pretty impressive. Morgan Gaerte leads Angola with 136 kills on the year, hitting .429, and her service pressure is top-tier. Angola makes the case for our #1 spot this week with a heavy hitter schedule on tap.
- Blackhawk Christian: The Braves are the top team in 1A and sit at 11-1 heading into week five. Blackhawk’s only defeat came at the hands of Bellmont on August 28th, and BC hasn’t dropped a set in the four matches since. Blackhawk travels to Leo on Tuesday before hosting Concordia Thursday.
- Carroll: The Chargers shook off a loss Wednesday by winning five matches in straight sets, including four 2-0 victories on Saturday in LaPorte. Carroll handed the host Slicers their only loss of the 2023 season thus far. This relatively young group is 17-3, playing high-quality volleyball, and has to be building confidence.
- Homestead: Most people knew that Addy Tindall was the real deal, but she keeps proving it. Sparty is 10-3 behind Tindall’s 160 kills. Savy Walker and Taeley Mahler were impressive on the block Wednesday in a loss to Bellmont. Homestead heads to Huntington North Tuesday with Angola and another matchup against Carroll on the horizon.
- Woodlan: 9-1 with a match against our #2 team on this list slated for Wednesday night. How many people from Woodburn make the trek to Angola? Should be a fun fun match Wednesday.
- Concordia: The Cadets had Angola on the ropes this week but the Hornets had other plans in a 3-2 victory. Concordia is 7-6 with Snider and Blackhawk Christian coming up Tuesday and Thursday. By the way, Jersey Loyer is REALLY good.
- South Adams: The STARFIRES!!! 17-2 with their only in-state loss coming to Bellmont. They face 9-0 Northeastern Monday night.
- Bishop Dwenger: The Saints are 4-4 because of a crazy strength of schedule throughout the opening month of the season. A balanced offensive attack and that early season win over Homestead indicates big potential for Dwenger.
- Southwood: A pair of 2-1 losses to 2A #1 Muncie Burris and a five-set loss to Eastern are the blemishes on an 8-3 Knights squad. Southwood’s match against Northfield next week tells us a lot more.
