  1. Angola: Welcome to the top spot in our rankings, Angola! The Hornets defeated Bellmont (19-2) and NorthWood (15-3) on Saturday to improve to 14-0. Not enough people are talking about sophomore Maya Harris. She elevates the Hornets’ attack alongside star senior Morgan Gaerte. If Angola serves the way they did this weekend for the rest of the year, I’m not sure anyone can slow them down.
  2. Bellmont: Yes, the Braves did fall to Angola on Saturday. But don’t panic yet, Bellmont fans. This team is still very good with sophomore MaryKate Scheumann leading the charge. Coach Krull uses the Saturday loss to Angola to relight that fire under the Braves.
  3. Carroll: The Chargers were idle last week, remaining 17-3 overall. Carroll travels to Warsaw Tuesday night before taking on Yorktown and Westfield this weekend. The schedule is loaded moving forward for Carroll with Concordia, Homestead, and Angola all still coming up.
  4. Homestead: Sparty went a perfect 5-0 this week, including four wins on Saturday as Addy Tindall surpassed 200 kills for the season. Homestead tries to hand Angola its first loss of the year on Monday night with coverage on Summit City Sports.
  5. Concordia: The Cadets dropped a 2-1 match against Valparaiso on Saturday after sweeping Blackhawk Christian on the road Thursday night. Concordia (12-7) is looking for just a bit more consistency across the board.
  6. Leo: A five-set win over Blackhawk Christian on Tuesday, and a 2-0 victory against Woodlan on Saturday jolts the Lions back inside the top 10. Leo gets another test on Thursday at Bellmont.
  7. Woodlan: The Warriors fell to Angola and Leo this week, but a win over Blackhawk shows this Woodlan team still has a lot of promise for the rest of 2023. A big time battle with South Adams awaits Saturday.
  8. Blackhawk Christian: The Braves lost four times this past week, dropping to 13-5 overall. Let’s not forget though that this team is in 1A and is still the cream of the crop when it comes to that class of volleyball in the state. Playing the competition they did this week ultimately helps come October, and the experience of seniors Allie Boyer, Abbie Cresse, and Olivia Martinez will show during the tournament.
  9. South Adams: Two more wins for Berne’s finest and South Adams is now 19-2. The Starfires swept previously unbeaten Northeastern Monday night and will get Woodlan twice in the next two weeks. Look out for Macy Pries!
  10. Bishop Dwenger: The Saints went 3-0 to start the week before falling to McCutcheon and Yorktown on Saturday. Dwenger sits at 7-6 overall and faces Northrop and Snider this week.
