2023: SuperSam’s Top 10 Area Games (Week 2)

Do you hear that sound?! That’s his entrance song! Its SuperSam!

In case you haven’t noticed, things are about to change with this platform. I was getting bored just picking NECC games. So starting TODAY, I’m amping up the competition and bring out my Top 10 Superstar Games and Picks. No, this isn’t a joke, theres no scams, no director’s cuts, and most certainly no cheap remakes. It’s as authentic as it gets.

Warning: awful poetry awaits you!!

SuperSam,

A man that’s a superstar sports phenom. He joined this fight to defend this planet from the Kryptonian light. A man with razor-eyed knowledge for the game called football. It’s the words from his mouth that bring a scouth of fire to the soul. It’s filled with hot takes that stand through the test of time.

No math is necessary when he can solve any mystery that hinders his path. The Man of Steel, what a mighty fine deal!

Don’t call Pam! Find a superhero that rhymes with ham. Sports are his jam! When it’s all said and done, Justice will be Served.

SuperSam says, “Let’s have some fun in the sun!!”

1-0 Snider @ 1-0 East Noble

This is THE Game of the Week in this area. And can you blame us? Two of the best programs in the area, well respected players, a lot of talent, and two respected coaches.

These are two teams that pound the ball so well, and they know how to play some rock-solid defense. It’s going to come down to, which team can pound the ball better, and which one can make the fewest mental errors?

It’s about to get real, like Dylan Krehl. East Noble is 100% back in the NE8 hunt this fall, but I have Snider standing tall!

Wave that Flag!

Snider: Uriah Buchanan

East Noble: Zack Leighty

0-1 Warren Central @ 0-1 Carroll

Outside of East Noble, this is the other game of the week everyone is talking about as Carroll hosts Indianapolis power Warren Central. Both teams had their good and bad in Week 1, but at the end of the day, neither team contributed enough in their losses.

Can Carroll’s O-Line protect the skilled players better? Will WC be able to solve a strong defensive unit that has Western Michigan commit Braden Steely to lead the way?

I have Jimmy Football and the stacked Chargers find a way to send their hometown faithful in better spirits.

Players to Watch:

Warren Central: Keith Jackson

Carroll: Hansen Haffner

1-0 Fairfield @ 1-0 Heritage

You can make a few arguments for the NECC Game of the Week. But for me, I’m looking at a sleeper matchup in Monroeville between 3A powers Fairfield and Heritage. The Heritage spread vs the Fairfield wishbone.

Where this game will be won or lost is the battle in the trenches and clock management. Which team can wear the other out and control the pace of the game will come out victorious.

When you run the wishbone, no game is safe playing against this Fairfield team. However, I’ll take my chances with Heritage’s 29 seniors and their explosive spread.

The Fighting Kolkman’s get the dub in the sun!

Players to Watch:

Fairfield: Alex Hofer

Heritage: Kobe Meyer

0-1 Norwell @ 1-0 Delta

Staying in Class 3A is one of Heritage’s possible sectional opponents. This is a must-win game for Norwell to get some confidence back heading into NE8 play, and Boy Howdy! That conference is loaded!! So, they have got to find a way to play spoiler on this Delta squad.

This Eagles team ran circles around Muncie Central led by Bronson Edwards throwing for 185 yards and 2 TD’s, and Nolan Carpenter rushing for 125 yards and 4 TD’s. Norwell knows this is a big game, but can they stop this athletic offense?

Delta is about to take flight, and go 2-0 for the second straight season….

Not so fast my friend!!

I gotta believe that there’s hope with the Norwell Knights. They have the Craft to play winning football in blue-collar fashion. The modified-I is one of the more unique triple-options that you’ll find in this area. And fits on brand with the Norwell Knights.

Everyone knows Norwell has the meat grinder in the backfield with Trey Bodenheimer, and everyone’s favorite name in Ossian: Timothy Bonjour.

But as I’ve stated, I’m going back to the Ossian Well one more time as they need to head into NE8 play with some confidence under their belt. And to me it comes down to the Senior quarterback. No, we ain’t talking about the Duke in 2023, no I’m talking about Fan Favorite Drew Graft…the fans chanting his name with oooohs and ahhhhs…he’s no ordinary crafty player. The storm is brewing, and the Norwell Knights are about to break hearts.

I don’t speak fluent French, but I do know this. It’s time to say Bon Voyage to Delta’s unbeaten streak! Give me the fighting Bonjour’s!

Players to Watch:

Norwell: Drew Graft

Delta: Bronson Edwards

1-0 Adams Central @ 1-0 Eastside

This is always a fun matchup this time of year as the Jets make the drive up north to Butler. The lethal Wing-T for AC vs Eastside’s power spread. Both teams are going to pound the football, with the occasional opportunities to throw the ball in play action.

Expect this to be a defensive grind-it-out game in Blazer Country. The question I have for Eastside is: Can they make enough big-time plays against this elite AC defense?

I got the Jets winning a *closer* game than expected.

AC: Keegan Bluhm

Eastside: Dane Sebert

1-0 DeKalb @ 0-1 Garrett

Memorial Stadium in Railroader Country will be pandemonium as the 43rd meeting between DeKalb and Garrett will square off. It’s always a fun game whenever these two get clash in a game called football, even though DeKalb has had the edge in recent memory. Those two talented teams are about to flex their muscle in a stadium near you.

This has the potential to be an upset win for the Big Train as both teams have a lot of studs on both ends. With that in mind, DeKalb might have the stronger offensive line and enough big-time gamers to escape with a nail-biting win.

Players to Watch:

DeKalb: Caden Pettis

Garrett: Calder Hefty

0-1 Angola @ 0-1 Leo

This is a get-it-right game for both Angola and Leo. While Hawk Hasselman is a stud, do they have the horses to compete for 4 quarters with a talented Leo squad?

Can Leo regain their offensive mojo in a winnable matchup on paper? If the Hybrid Spread can find the balance of power football and some big-time plays in the passing game, Angola is in big trouble. The Hornets do not have enough manpower to have to play ketchup with Leo for way too long. If Angola doesn’t strike early, it could be a tough road ahead.

I’m going to call my Schott! Lions roar to victory!

Players to Watch:

Angola: Hawk Hasselman

Leo: Brock Schott

1-0 New Haven @ 0-1 Bishop Luers

For the first time since 2005, New Haven gets to play Luers, as they make the short drive to Luers Field. The Dawgs’ lone victory over the rich Luers program came in November of 1965, a 13-0 road win for New Haven. The Dogs can’t let up as Luers has the talent to make plays with their spread and on defense. New Haven cannot afford to have a setback.

For Luers, though, they have got to be way more disciplined in this game than they were in Kendallville in Week 1. They also need to have a much better effort in special teams as they lost three onside kicks to Alex Sprague and East Noble.

I don’t see a complete meltdown by Luers in consecutive games, but I see them falling just short to the Bulldogs. Nearly 60 years later, New Haven repeats history.

Bring out the Dawgs!!

Players to Watch:

New Haven: Mason Knoch

Luers: Isaac Zay

0-1 Bishop Dwenger @ 0-1 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH)

In the words of Bill Belichick, it’s on to Cincinnati! Fun fact: The mascot for Archbishop Moeller is the Fighting Crusaders. And for a team that has won 11 or more games in each of the last 2 seasons, they’re going to want a bounce back following a 49-28 loss to Ben Davis.

Bishop Dwenger will see better days ahead of them. But on this night, there won’t be a Cincinnati Miracle on Montgomery Rd.

Players to Watch:

Dwenger: Carter Minix

Moeller: Luke Dunn

0-1 Homestead @ 1-0 Noblesville

For the first time since the 2019 sectional that saw Homestead winning 24-21 in OT, these two square off in Noblesville.

The Spartans are coming off a very encouraging 14-7 loss to Carmel, and that will be interesting to see if they can use that loss as motivation to get this one tomorrow night. The Millers are riding high after their 48-30 win over Mount Vernon (Fortville). Logan Shoffner is the straw that stirs the drink as he ran for 240 yards and 2 TD’s.

The Millers think this year is different……

Oh not so fast my friend!!

If the Sparty defense comes to play, it’ll not only get the job done but the Spartans will repeat what history brought in 2019….

To which I say

DOWN GOES NOBLESVILLE
