Chesterton Semi-State

Class 2A Boys

Mishawaka Marian (17-1-2) vs Fort Wayne Canterbury (16-1-3) 1 PM

What an outstanding ball game this one should be, a pair of one-loss clubs going at it for the right to move onto the Class 2A State Championship. The Cavs battled in a very close ballgame last Saturday at the Norwell regional against Culver Academy, one that ended up going to PKs on a conversational call towards the end of regulation, but the keeper in Saed Ababtawi made some very CRITICAL saves in PKs, and regulation for Canterbury to hold on. Meanwhile, Mishawaka Marian defeated West Lafeyette in a very close battle that ended in a 2-1 win for the Knights. This game is going to be a battle of the keepers Ababtawi (Canterbury) the Indiana University commit, has only allowed 3 goals in the 19 games he has played, meanwhile for Mishawaka Marian their keeper in Corbin Balyeat has produced 11 shutouts on the year for his squad. Canterbury is hoping to bring home one more state championship for renowned head coach Greg Mauch, who is retiring at the end of the year, and I think the Cavs keep it rolling.

Hunter’s Pick: Fort Wayne Canterbury 2 Mishawaka Marian 1

Class 2A Girls

Mishawaka Marian (19-1-1) vs Leo (17-4) 3:30 PM

Leo will face its toughest test of the year, they’ll take on a one-loss club in Mishawaka Marian, their one loss happened to come against a team out of the state, losing to Olentangy (Lewis Center, OH) 2-1 early in the season. Leo will need to play hard on their back line in this contest as Mishawaka Marian is one of the highest-scoring teams in the state, led by a tremendous goal scorer in Daisy Moody who has 25 goals on the year. Leo’s back line has been very good all year long, as well as the keeper Mallory Michmerhuizen, I think the offensive attack with Audrey Abel, Samantha Sanderlin, and Ella Graves will have enough to get it done in a very close match.

Hunter’s Pick: Mishawaka Marian 2 Leo 3

Class 1A Girls

Andrean (14-2-4) vs Fort Wayne Canterbury (10-8-3) 6 PM

The Canterbury Cavaliers picked up a HUGE win in PKs against Faith Christian on Saturday in the Westview Regional. Stella VandeWater was the hero for Canterbury last Saturday picking up a goal in regulation as well as a goal in PKs to seal the deal for the win. She is gonna be a big factor if the Cavs want to stay around in this one, as well as the keeper Sofia Carver who held her line for the Cavs coming up with some spectacular saves and finished last Saturday afternoon by only letting in one goal on 8 shots. Carver is in for a test this Saturday as Andrean brings in a very young and quick squad, with only 2 seniors on the roster for head coach Jeff Clapman’s 59ers squad. The record may not show it, but Canterbury brings quite a bit of talent into this one, I feel like this one will be very close all the way through, and one goal will seal it.

Hunter’s pick: Andrean 0 Fort Wayne Canterbury 1
