#1: Bishop Dwenger
Record: 2-0
Week 3: at South Side
The Saints have jumped to 2-0 by making quick work of Wayne and North Side, both winless on the year. Still, they’ve looked impressive as they’ve barely faced adversity in two games. The Dwenger defense allowed only 226 yds of total offense on Friday against North Side. Many of their best playmakers have been pulled before the end of the game to avoid injury. Even in the limited time that we saw them, they’ve been effective. For example, Griffin Eifert had 7 rec for 65 yds and a touchdown on Friday. Things will be relatively easy once more, with a trip to South Side next, but a huge matchup with Homestead the week after looms on the horizon.
#2: Snider
Record: 2-0
Week 3: at Concordia
Snider was tested and they survived. A would-be game-tying PAT was blocked by Snider’s Reece Thomas and secured a thrilling victory for the Panthers. One of the biggest positives to take from the game was 235 total rushing yds by a committee of running backs: Lenny Bennett (74), Kameron Trotter (44), Jon Barnes Jr (5), Chance Collier (115). It was a little too close for comfort, but Snider managed to improve to 2-0 on the year. Next up will be a game at Concordia.
#3: Homestead
Record: 2-0
Week 3: vs Bishop Luers
A blowout victory over the Cadets should help Homestead continue to build momentum and confidence for the Spartans. QB Luke Goode has looked like the best QB so far in the SAC, throwing for 414 yds and 7 TD over the first two games. The defense has only given up 12 points. Things remain relatively easy this week against the Bishop Luers Knights.
#4: Carroll
Record: 1-1
Week 3: at North Side
Carroll suffered a demoralizing 1-point loss to Snider, but they are still a great football team, the best of all teams with one loss. In fact, their loss to Snider answered some pressing questions about how good this team really is, and if they can compete with the best of the SAC. They can! QB Jeff Becker led some clutch drives late to keep the Chargers in the game. Out of the offense’s 427 total yds, Becker had 376, either by running or passing. His performance gives Carroll tremendous confidence that they can beat anybody. Now the Chargers have their eyes on taking down North Side on the road.
#5: Concordia
Record: 1-1
Week 3: vs Snider
Nothing was working for the Cadets in their game against Homestead. The offense scratched across 6 points and 132 total yds on offense. Meanwhile, the defense gave up 35 points and 364 yds to the opposing offense. There were warning signs after a slow start last week vs South Side, and they couldn’t fix things in time for their week 2 matchup with Sparty. Things don’t get any easier for the Cadets as they must face Snider at home in week 3.
#6: Bishop Luers
Record: 1-1
Week 3: at Homestead
Luers leapfrogs Wayne and North Side after a win over the Generals on Friday. A 20-for-31, 219 yd night from Christian Fly is a statline that the Knights would like to see every game. His next opportunity will come on the road vs a stout Homestead defense.
#7: Wayne
Record: 0-2
Week 3: at Northrop
Wayne was able to put points up on the board and had a nice comeback against Luers, but by the time they were within reach, it was too late. Just like that the Generals are 0-2 and are back in the lower tier of the SAC. They’ll look to turn it around against a reeling Northrop team next week.
#8: North Side
Record: 0-2
Week 2: vs Wayne
The Legends drop two spots after a loss to Dwenger and a loss to Snider the week before. Neither was a bad loss, but not putting up any points in 96 minutes of football is not what was expected from an offense led by QB Ronald Collins III and RB Alex Holliday-Robinson. They’ll face another great team in Carroll next week.
#9: Northrop
Record: 1-1
Week 3: vs Wayne
The Bruins picked up their first win of the year in an ugly game with South Side. Both Northrop QBs, Dylan Hoot and Isaa Tchari, are under 35% completion percentage this year. Northrop will look to improve on offense in week 3 vs Wayne.
#10: South Side
Record: 0-2
Week 3: vs Bishop Dwenger
A close loss on Friday to Northrop isn’t what the Archers were aiming for, but it still shows improvement for this team from last year. South Side now eyes a shot at knocking off Bishop Dwenger at home next week.
