Concordia’s Mallory Weller and Westview’s Noah Bontrager both set course records today at the Marion Cross Country Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Weller, Indiana’s defending state champion, won the Chuck Schlemmer Girls’ Elite Varsity Race with a time of 16:56.2. That breaks the previous course record, which was set by former Homestead runner Addison Knoblauch two years ago. Weller got an early lead and never looked back. It’s her second first place finish this year. She also won the Huntington North Invitational two weeks ago at Huntington University.
Mallory’s sister Daphne Weller also had a top 10 finish. She came in sixth with a time of 18:15.9. Daphne won the Mel Brodt Invitational at Bowling Green State University last week.
As a team, the Cadets took first place in the Girls’ Elite Race; scoring 38 points. Correction from the video: they had three top 10 finishers. Their third top 10 finisher was Leighton Archer in ninth place.
In the Terry Lakes Boys’ Elite Varsity Race, Westview’s Noah Bontrager won and set a new course record with his time of 14:33.4. He started out trailing Warsaw’s Jackson Gackenheimer, but took the lead later in the race and never looked back.
Northridge went on to take first place in the team standings for the Boys’ Elite Race with 72 points. Three Fort Wayne teams placed in the top 10. Those teams were Concordia (3rd), Carroll (4th), and Snider (6th).
