One more week in the SAC. Luers (6-0) faces Homestead to try and keep the title in their hands and away from Snider (5-1), who hosts Wayne. Can Luers take the crown outright? We’ll find out on Friday.
Big Division
1. Snider (7-1, 5-1 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #1
Week 8: 33-13 W at 4A Bishop Dwenger
Week 9: vs 4A Wayne
Scoring in every quarter of the game, Snider took care of business smoothly against Dwenger to keep pace just one game behind Luers (6-0) for the best record in the SAC. At the very least, Snider has guaranteed themselves to be kings of the Big Division.
2. Carroll (6-2, 5-1 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #2
Week 8: 35-6 W at 6A Northrop
Week 9: vs 5A North Side
Everything went right for Carroll against Northrop. Although the offense was slower than expected to tack points on the board, the defense did their part with a 62-yard scoop and score by Julante Hinton—call it another win for the Chargers.
3. Homestead (4-4, 4-2 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #4
Week 8: 42-0 vs 3A Concordia
Week 9: vs 2A #7 Bishop Luers
36 total plays, 17 first downs, 20 minutes of possession time, and 355 rushing yards by Brett Fuchs (six touchdowns). Enough said.
4. Bishop Dwenger (3-5, 3-3 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #3
Week 8: 33-13 L vs 5A #2 Snider
Week 9: at 3A Concordia
Outscored 20-0 total in the second and third quarters, it wasn’t Dweller’s day against one of the best teams in the state. Snider ran over the Saints’ defensive front, with Uriah Buchanan surpassing 200 rushing yards on the night. Although Dwenger will most certainly get the win this week against Concordia, you know they really wanted to pull the upset against the Panthers.
5. Northrop (0-8, 0-6 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #5
Week 8: 35-6 L vs 6A #10 Carroll
Week 9: at 4A South Side
Northrop’s offense fell flat against Carroll—a faster and more experienced team. Next up, they have South Side—a game that presents them a real shot at pulling off a victory.
Small Division
1. Luers (6-2, 6-0 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #1
Week 8: 36-0 vs 4A South Side
Week 9: at 6A Homestead
Another dominant win for Luers behind 234 rushing yards on offense. However, next week they face off against the Spartans with an outright SAC title claim on the line. On the road as well? Better watch out.
2. Wayne (5-3, 3-3 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #2
Week 8: 18-12 W at 5A North Side
Week 9: at 5A #2 Snider
In a close game, Kimar Nelson took over to gut his way to 153 rushing yards and two scores for Wayne. A crucial confidence-building win for the Generals as sectional play approaches.
3. North Side (3-5, 3-3 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #3
Week 8: 18-12 W vs 4A Wayne
Week 9: at 6A #10 Carroll
Despite two freshman recievers earning over 100 yards receiving—Caleb Kiengele and Maalik Moore—North Side couldn’t get the offensive fireworks going when it mattered most: in scoring position. A brutal loss to end divisional play.
4. South Side (1-7, 1-5 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #4
Week 8: 36-0 L at 2A #7 Luers
Week 9: vs 6A Northrop
South Side maybe was caught looking ahead to their matchup against Northrop—one of the few games on their schedule in which they can pull off a win. It’s an interesting matchup, especially for a team that hasn’t won two SAC games in one year since 2012.
5. Concordia (0-8, 0-6 SAC)
Previous Ranking: #5
Week 8: 42-0 L at 6A Homestead
Week 9: vs 4A Bishop Dwenger
Concordia stood no chance against Brett Fuchs and the Spartans. Even the offense struggled for the Cadets, as they only mustered up 117 all-purpose yards.
