Week 5 ACAC Power Poll

Published on

Adams Central’s stellar performance against Heritage in a 38-0 shutout win warranted performance of the week honors in the conference. The question is: can they keep it up this Friday against rival South Adams?

1. Adams Central (5-0)

Previous Ranking: #1

Week 5: 38-0 W vs 3A Heritage

Week 6: vs 1A #16 South Adams

Adams Central just absolutely terrified the entire conference with this whooping of Heritage. The electric Kobe Meyer could only muster up 57 yards through the air and 33 on the ground against the Jets, and a shutout of one of the highest-scoring teams in the conference is just ridiculous for a team lots of people said was depleted of the manpower from last season. Next up: a date with arch-enemy South Adams.

2. Bluffton (5-0)

Previous Ranking: #2

Week 5: 19-7 W at 4A Jay County

Week 6: vs 1A Southern Wells

Another great performance by the Bluffton defense, as they allowed a touchdown or less for the fourth time this season. 5-0 for the first time since 1982, and for just the second time since World War II.

3. Heritage (4-1)

Previous Ranking: #3

Week 5: 38-0 L at 1A #2 Adams Central

Week 6: vs 2A Lapel

The Heritage offense fell flat against an Adams Central team that had their sights focused on Kobe Meyer. Never couldn’t find anything open—no open receivers, no open grass to run on, and no open space in the pocket. Heritage is still a solid team, but a clear gap in the hierarchy of the ACAC has been established by the Jets.

4. South Adams (3-2)

Previous Ranking: #4

Week 5: 28-13 W at 1A Monroe Central

Week 6: at 1A #2 Adams Central

Every time Owen Wanner handed Colton Bollenbacher the ball against Monroe Central he took off. Behind 28 rushes, Bollenbacher averaged 7.1 yards a carry with 200 total yards and three touchdowns. He was the difference in this game, end of story. Without his performance, it’s very unlikely South Adams would have come out with a win.

5. Jay County (3-2)

Previous Ranking: #5

Week 5: 19-7 L vs 2A #4 Bluffton

Week 6: at 3A Woodlan

While Jay County’s defense did its job against a Bluffton—holding the Tigers to 19 points after Bluffton averaged 43 points in their first four games—the offense couldn’t get chugging along against a bigger, faster Bluffton squad. On 13 attempts, Sean Bailey completed just two passes for 35 yards. That was the key difference in this one.

6. Woodlan (2-3)

Previous Ranking: #6

Week 5: 33-3 W at 1A Southern Wells

Week 6: vs 4A Jay County

Drew Fleek fleeced the Raiders with some excellent work on the ground, rushing for three touchdowns and 188 yards off just 23 carries. Outside of one lost fumble, Woodlan made very few mistakes in a dominant performance on both sides of the field.

7. Southern Wells (1-4)

Previous Ranking: #7

Week 5: 33-3 L vs 3A Woodlan

Week 6: at 2A #4 Bluffton

The defense fell apart against Woodlan, giving up three passing touchdowns and 194 rushing yards. A tough loss, but one where a lot of flaws in the defense were exposed—which gives coaches plenty of tweaks to make.
