Talent-Loaded Lions Look to Build Off 8-4 Campaign

Published on

Leo went 8-4 and finished third in the Northeast 8 Conference last year. It was their first season under former Northrop head coach Jason Doerffler.

This year, the Lions return starting quarterback Kylar Decker. He started all of Leo’s games last year and completed 58% of his passes.

While the Lions did graduate leading rusher Max Loeffler, Brett Fuller proved to be a very capable backup. He and Aidan Monds are expected to get the bulk of the carries this year.

Leo also has multiple weapons returning at the receiver and tight end positions. Tight End Brock Schott, the leading receiver, returns along with Kamden Zeisloft and Jaxon Keller; both of whom averaged double digits in yards per catch. Also, the Lions add North Side transfer Kaden Hurst, who also averaged double figures in yards per catch.

The defense also returns several stand-outs. Schott was the leading pass-rusher. He returns at defensive end. Aiden Furnish was Leo’s second-leading pass-rusher. He and Monds are expected to contribute at inside linebacker. Zeisloft was the NE8’s leader in interceptions last year. He returns at free safety.
