The Homestead boys team was able to defeat Dwenger 61-46 on Friday. The Spartans were able to halt multiple Dwenger runs and stay in front after taking the lead early. The Spartans were led by G/F Luke Goode and G Zak Krueger. Goode had to earn all of his 15 points, with some coming from the foul line, as he was tightly guarded all game. He was doing a lot of the dirty work for the Spartans, collecting 9 rebounds and setting screens for teammates. Meanwhile, Krueger’s incredible shooting touch was on display with a game-high 18 points on 62% shooting. He also had 4 assists and 2 steals in the game as he led the Spartans to their first conference win this year.
“My teammates were getting me the ball. We were all doing things to get each other open and it just worked out for me tonight,” he said after the game. “They beat us last year in the first conference game. We came out with targets on our backs so we executed and got the win.”
Dwenger was able to keep things interesting at various points throughout the game. Much of this was due to G Brenden Lytle’s timely 3-pointers, of which he had 4 for a total of 12 points in the game. Owen Shively was the leading scorer for the Saints with 15 points. Still, these contributions weren’t enough to keep up with the Spartans offensive attack. With this win, Homestead moves to 3-1 on the year while Dwenger falls to 0-2.
