SAC Basketball Spotlight: Homestead at Blackhawk Christian

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, Homestead and Blackhawk met on the court Tuesday night in front of a sellout crowd, with legendary college coaches such as North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, among others, in attendance to watch Caleb Furst and Luke Goode play. It was a great game and a great atmosphere as Homestead defeated Blackhawk Chrsitian 69-55.

The game was close through the first half, however Homestead was able to get on a little run near the end of the second quarter and kept momentum on their side in the third. They played great defense in the second half and double-teamed Furst any time he had the ball. Eventually, the amount of missed shots by the Braves began to add up and the game was put out of reach with free throws in the closing minutes. But with this being a game between two teams that aren’t the same conference or class, it was more about showcasing two of the best players in Indiana, a state that is notorious for its high school basketball talent.

They both delivered. Caleb Furst, ranked as a top 30 recruit nationally, finished with 25 points. Luke Goode, ranked comfortably inside the top 100, finished with 19 points, as he had to tone down his aggression after running into foul trouble early in the second half. It was definitely a good showing by both of them in front of so many college coaches.

Furst had been highly sought after by Michigan State. Tom Izzo being in the stands should tell you all you need to know. They are very high on him and would love to have another big man to go along with 2020 signee Mady Sissoko. Furst is scheduled to visit East Lansing on February 14. He also had a visit to the defending national champs, Virginia, back in September.

Goode recently visited Maryland on November 8. He also has offers from Indiana, Louisville, Iowa, and Northwestern, with a few other schools taking a look at him.

Right now, it’s all speculation, with Furst and Goode still having plenty of time to make a decision. However, it’s only a matter of time before we’ll know where these two Fort Wayne superstars will end up.

Looking ahead for both teams, Homestead will take on Snider on friday, in a rematch of the incredible game played during the SAC tournament, while Blackhawk will face another SAC school, Bishop Luers, on Saturday.
