Lions Roar Back from 10 Runs Down to Defeat Bruins

Published on

Leo is hosting the Leo Softball Invitational this weekend. Today, they hosted Northrop who jumped out to an early lead.

The Bruins started the game with an 8-run first inning, and they added to it in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Brilee Day hit a three-run home-run that put Northrop up 11-2. They added another run in the sixth, but Leo scored in the bottom of that inning, so they played on into the seventh.

In the seventh, the Lions mounted a comeback. Down 12-3, they got several key 2-out hits. Malina Lape and Madyn Moore each came up with 2-run hits. Then Anna Woods drove home the tying-runs with her two-run single. Freshman Kortney Dowty served as a courtesy runner for Woods after the hit. She would score the winning run on Kristian Bond’s walk-off single. Leo put up a 10-run seventh to defeat Northrop 13-12. The Lions improve to 3-0. The Bruins fall to 0-3.

The Leo softball invitational continues tomorrow. Leo takes on Columbia City at 9 am, followed by Northrop vs. Munster at 10:45 am. At 12:30 pm, Northrop plays Columbia City. Then the day ends with Leo taking on Munster at 2:15.
