North Side is looking to bounce back from a 3-7 campaign last year. This year’s defense returns the senior leadership of Josh Masasu, James Early, and Tristen Newsome. Early led the Legends with six sacks last year. Masasu led them with 14 tackles for loss. And Newsome had five picks as a safety a year ago.
Newsome will also start for North Side at quarterback. He threw nine passes last year with four completions, a touchdown, and no interceptions. He’ll have sophomore Maalik Moore back at wide receiver. Moore was the Legends’ leading receiver as a freshman. He’s 6’3 and can catch the football in tight coverage.
In the running game; Caleb Kiengele, Jasean Early, and Markus Williams are expected to share the load. Each of those backs brings different abilities to the field.
North Side opens its season on the road against Northridge on Friday August 23rd. The Raiders are coming off a 9-3 campaign. The Legends are looking to avenge last year’s home opening loss to Northridge.
