Keshaun Fields Joins Advance Prep Academy in Florida

Wayne running back Keshaun Fields is headed to Advance Prep Academy in Auburndale, Florida. According to the school’s Facebook page; Advance Prep is a post-graduate college prep program that seeks to help students pursuing athletic scholarships.

“Knowing I was a late qualifier, I just figured it was either JUCO or Prep,” Fields said. “Me and my coach had talked…we thought I should just go prep, and it would be the easy way.”

Even though Advance Prep is not a junior college, Fields does have the option of being a part of APA for either a semester or a full year and then enrolling in a different school afterward.

“They did tell me, I could do a semester and then transfer from there because my GPA is high enough already, but I’ve got to get my test scores up,” Fields said. “So I’ll probably be there for at least a semester or [an entire] school year.”

Fields has been Wayne’s leading rusher each of the last two seasons. Last year he rushed for 723 yards averaging 4.9 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns. In 2018, the rushed for 937 yards with 5.2 yards per carry and six touchdowns. Fields was part of a Generals’ team that went 9-3 and reached a Class 4A Sectional Championship game in 2018. Despite his accomplishments, he does not see himself as a finished product.

“[There’s] most definitely more room for improvements, most definitely,” Fields said. “I was never satisfied with the things I was doing. That’s why I continue to work every day.”

With Fields having completed his senior season, Wayne now has to find a new starting running back. One option is Shawn Collins who rushed for 490 yards last season averaging 6.8 yards per carry and scoring five touchdowns.

“He’s been looking up to me since he got in Wayne, so I just wish the best for him, nothing but the best for him,” Fields said.

The Generals are also under new leadership. Sherwood Haydock takes over for Derrick Moore as head coach. Haydock is an experienced head coach who has coached at several schools including Harding and Woodlan. Though Fields never got to play for Haydock, he does think the future looks bright for Wayne football.

“That’s a good coach they’ve got right there,” Fields said. “I mean he’s experienced a lot, so they should have a good year next year.”
