Girls Basketball Week 11: Northrop improves to 14-2 after 81-25 win | IBCA Poll – Homestead #7, South #19, Carroll and Northrop RV

Laney Steckler led Carroll with 15 points while Kelli Damman joined her in double figures with 11. Fourteen different Chargers scored.

Penn 47, South 41

Culver 44, Blackhawk 27

Kyr’e Mercer led the Braves with 18 while hitting four three pointers.

Canterbury 65, Union City 52

Alaina Rongos scored 24 points, including three three-pointers.

Friday, 1/12

Carroll 64, Luers 33

Laney Steckler led all scorers with 17 points. Kathryn Knapke led Bishop Luers with 15 points.

Dwenger 88, Wayne 22

Dwenger’s Ellen Ross had a game high 21 points to go with six rebounds and three steals while going over the 1,000 career point mark in the win. Teammate Grace Wharton added 13 points, seven steals and five assists. Caitlyn Ryan also had 13 for the Saints while Grace Renbarger chipped in with 11. Quinnia Reese led the Generals with 8.

Northrop 93, North 31

Niomi Dube and Arielle Thatcher each had 21 points to lead Northrop. Teammate Breanna Douglas scored 18 and had 10 rebounds while Alicia Tiney-Williams racked up 13 boards and 8 blocks in the post.

South 50, Concordia 40

Taniece Chapman led South with 14 points, while the Cadets’ Carissa Garcia scored a game high 25, including 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Homestead 60, Snider 24

Sylare Starks had 22 points and passed the 1,000 career point mark, and Kara Gealy added 13. Da’Leshia Davis led the Panthers with 10 points.

Barnes had a 3.3 GPA, and has earned a basketball scholarship to play at Ferris State. She volunteers her time with Fort for Fitness, and plans on working with Erin’s House.

Carroll senior guard Kelli Damman passed 1,000 points for her career, putting up 29 in a win over Norwell last week.

Bellmont 70, North 38

North Side traveled to Bellmont and lost to the Squaws 70-38 on senior night. 

Grace Hunter nearly recorded a game high 17 points, while adding 9 assists and 11 rebounds. Emily Fuelling scored 15 on the night for the Squaws.

North Side’s Makyla Wilchar and Ja’Shanek Brooks each scored 10 points on the night.

Indiana Basketball Association Coaches Top 20 Poll: Homestead is tied with Lawrence North at #7. The Lady Spartans are coming off a 58-55 win at South Side to secure first place in the SAC. South is ranked #19 while Carroll and Northrop are receiving votes.

Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Polls: 

(Class 4A,) (#4) Homestead moved past (#7) Lawrence North after handing the Lady Wildcats 44-38 loss on Tuesday. (#3) North Central drop out of the top spot after back-to-back losses to (RV) Ben Davis and (#2) Pike. (#1) Carmel takes back the top spot with wins at Center Grove and at home 75-62 vs South Side. 

(Class 3A) Concordia, Luers and Dwenger are all receiving votes, and in that order. The Lady Cadets are tied with Snider for 4th place in the SAC and are coming off road losses at Jay County and Luers, getting outscored 72-56 in those games. The Lady Knights and Saints are tied for 7th place in conference. Luers with two very impressive wins beating Concordia 40-29, then Saturday going to Canterbury and winning 71-53. At home, Dwenger beat Heritage 84-40, then lost to Carroll 78-64.

Basketball State Tournament Pairings Shows Scheduled:

The pairings for the 43rd girls state tournament will be revealed on Sunday, Jan. 21 beginning at 1 pm ET / 12pm CT with Bob Lovell and Pat McKee hosting the show.
