Can Concordia beat Bishop Chatard?? This is the question being bantered around
the city as the Class 3A Regional kicks off on Summit City Sports.
Bishop Chatard
They are absolutely loaded and people in the know have said this might be the best Trojans team ever. If you’ve lived in Indiana for any amount of time and followed high school athletics at all you will know that is quite the statement. They are coming into the Class 3A Regional at 11-1 with that 1 loss to 5A Cathedral by 10pts. Oh, and by the way all their wins have been blowouts by 30pts or more. They have a tremendous offensive trio in QB Kyle Cheek (1850yds 24TD’s 4INT), RB Daylen Taylor (1786yds 23TD’s) and WR Andrew Sowinski (868yds 20TD’s) plus the defense has only giving up double-digit scoring in 5 of the 12 games played this season.
Now that we’ve covered the stats for Bishop Chatard
let’s look at who the Cadets have and what they need to do to pull the upset:
What needs to happen: Davis must keep a clean game throwing the ball and limit turnovers. His decision making on the reads for RPO’s will go a long way in determining the outcome tonight. Drew and his O-line will need a big game on the ground to keep the defense honest but more importantly to keep the Chatard offense off the field. The wide receivers must be able to create separation against a Trojan defensive backfield that has proven to be at the top of Class 3A.
Defense
Players: Matthew Goeglein (85 tackles) Cooper Harris (84 tackles) Sam Hudson (76 tackles 6 Sacks 1 INT) Kameron Johnson (62 tackles 3 INT’s) Jalen Vanderbosch 6 INT’s) Kam Vanderbosch (3 INT’s)
What needs to happen: The defense has been strong at times this year; especially in this postseason through the first 3 games. The defensive line will need to consume blockers so the talented linebacking corp can be clean to read and react and get into the backfield where they wreak havoc. The other must is that the defense MUST create a couple turnovers. As we’ve seen they can do just that with 7 INT’s through the 3 playoff games.
So…can
Concordia pull the upset…you tell us!!
