Homestead’s Luke Goode and Blackhawk Christian’s Caleb Furst were selected as part of the All-State Underclassmen Supreme 15 group. They share the honor with top-notch players such as Khristian Lander from Evansville Reitz, Jalen Blackmon from Marion, and Trey Kaufman and Kooper Jacobi from Silver Creek.
Goode averaged 17.6 points per game this year leading the Spartans in that category. He was also tied for the lead in assists with senior guard Zak Krueger. Goode has played varsity for the last three years and led his team in scoring the last two years and led his team in scoring the last two years.
“Obviously the other players that were nominated are really good players,” Goode said. “And to be listed on a group of Indiana basketball players and names like that, it’s a really cool honor.”
Goode becomes an All-State selection for the second year in a row. Last year he was selected to the Large School Underclassmen All-State group.
“I think it’s just a testament to my teammates and my coach; them putting me in that position, helping me get to that position both years is a true testament to the program we have a Homestead and all the guys that have helped me get to that point,” Goode said.
Furst was the Braves’ leading scorer and rebounder this year. He averaged double figures in both categories (22.1 points per game, 13.4 rebounds per game). This is the third year in a row that Furst received an All-State selection. In 2018, as a freshman, he was one of the Small School All-State selections. It’s the second year in a row that he was named to the Supreme 15.
Furst has committed to play college basketball at Purdue. But before he goes to college, he is looking forward to one more season at Blackhawk Christian.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Furst said. “I don’t want to rush anything or have it come too soon, but rather stay in the moment and wait for it to come.”
Two of his teammates at Blackhawk received All-State honorable mentions; those were guards Zane Burke and Marcus Davidson. They both averaged double figures in points per game (Burke 17.5, Davidson 15.9), shot close to 50% from three (Davidson 48%, Burke 46%) and were the Braves top two leaders in assists (Burke 4.2, Davidson 4.1).
“They’re great players, they really just make everyone on our team better as a whole,” Furst said. “Everyone on our team did a great job this year. I thought we all just worked together really well, and really bonded on and off the court.
Though Goode and Furst compete against each other during the high school season, they have played AAU ball together since elementary school and teamed up with the Indy Heat 17U Nike Elite Youth Basketball team last year. Recently they were both named Junior All-Stars.
“We’ve been playing together since second grade, and we’ve been really, really good friends since then,” Goode said. “So to see all his success…and now with all these honors that he’s getting, it’s really cool to see one of my good friends get all that.”
“[Luke is] a great player, you know, he’s been really good this year, and so, to see him get recognized like that is really cool,” Furst said.
