Concordia Cadets Conquer at SAC Cross Country Meet

Concordia took home first place in both the boys’ and girls’ team standings at the SAC Cross Country Meet at Northrop. Concordia runners won both races.

In the boys’ race, Hunter Panning kept pace with Snider’s Jacksan Slater, but trailed him for most of the race. But Panning overtook Slater out around the 4,000 meter mark. Panning won with a time of 16:03.7; which was 1.6 seconds ahead of Slater.

The Cadets got top-10 finishes from five runners. In addition to Hunter Panning’s first-place finish; Austin Panning finished fourth, Connor Creutz finished fifth, Karsten Sheets finished seventh, and Zachary Cecil finished eighth.

Defending state champion Mallory Weller won the girls’ race with a time of 17:39.6, which was 12.3 seconds ahead of second place. Weller jumped out in front early in the race and never looked back. But speaking of second place, Mallory’s sister Daphne Weller came in second. She ran a time of 17:52.9, which was 45.5 seconds ahead of third place.

The Lady Cadets got top-10 finishes from seven runners. In addition to the Wellers; Leighton Archer finished fourth, Hannah Clark finished sixth, Luci Hogue finished seventh, Maddie Gentz finished eighth, and Lilly Schlicker finished 10th.
