Woodlan is 3-0 this year under first year head coach David Randall. This past week, they beat Bellmont by five on Friday and then Garrett by 20 on Saturday. Randall takes over for Gary Cobb who has led the Warriors to four winning seasons the last five years. Before leading the Lady Warriors, Randall coached boys’ basketball at Woodlan and Heritage.
Last year’s leading scorer, Avah Smith has graduated. But sophomore Alyssa Anderson has picked up the slack. She’s currently averaging 14.7 points per game. She’s also leading the Warriors in rebounding. Anderson is averaging 10.7 boards per game.
But Woodlan also has some quality returning players. Sisters Taylor and Brooke Kneubuhler are back after they each played over 20 games last year. Taylor is a senior who averaged 13.3 points per game and six rebounds per game. She totaled six steals in the last two games combined. Brooke is a junior averaging 10.3 points per game. She totaled seven steals in the last two games.
Defense has been a strenght of Woodlan’s so far this year, especially the last two games. The Warriors held Bellmont to 38 points on Friday and gathered 12 steals. Then they held Garrett to 31 points on Saturday and came up with 11 steals.
