5 to Know: Concordia’s Grant Allman

Published on

Concordia senior linebacker Grant Allman embodies toughness for the Cadets. A year ago, he led all returning defenders with 53 tackles, while adding 3 tackles for loss, an interception, and a fumble recovery. His leadership was recognized this offseason when head coach Tim Mannigel named him a team captain — a role Allman has embraced with a simple rallying cry: “Get tough.”

That grit was on full display in Concordia’s road trip to Indianapolis Scecina, where Allman turned in one of the most impressive performances of his career. He racked up an eye-popping 17 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble, setting the tone for a defense that refuses to back down.

Who or what has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey so far?

The person who has had the biggest impact on my journey has to be, without a doubt, my dad. He has been there throughout everything. He is always there to give me advice on how to be a better player and person. I would not be the person I am today without him.

What’s your pregame routine or ritual that gets you locked in?

My pregame routine is pretty simple. I like to listen to my music while I’m sitting in the locker room and while getting ready for the game. Before the game, I like to find a quiet place and pray to God.

What’s your proudest moment in sports — and why does it stand out?

My proudest moment in sports would have to be me being selected as team captain this year. This stands out to me because it shows that my hard work has not gone unnoticed and that people believe in my ability to lead.

What are your goals — both short-term and long-term — in your sport or beyond?

My goals for this year are to become a better leader and be more vocal out on the field as well. I also want to be more of a Christ-like example to show everyone the reason why I play.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you — on or off the field?

One thing that people probably do not know about me is that I like anything video game-related. They are my way of winding down after a long week or hanging out with family and friends.

Up Next: Concordia will host a tough Eastbrook team, kickoff scheduled for 7pm.
