5 to Know: Blackhawk Christian’s Chip Bennett

Published on

One of the best two-way players in the area, Chip Bennett was a beast in Blackhawk Christian’s first-ever win against an Indiana opponent, a 15–12 victory over Southern Wells last Friday. He carried the ball 23 times for 129 yards with a 23-yard touchdown, while anchoring the defense with 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a QB hurry, and a forced fumble that set up the go-ahead score. Bennett’s impact didn’t stop there—his devastating block helped QB Max Warner connect with Dylan Grimes for the 37-yard game-winning touchdown with just 26 seconds left, sealing the win for head coach Brice Bennett. Check out the 5 to Know with Chip Bennett!

Who or what has had the biggest impact on your athletic journey so far?

My head baseball coach Kevin Kinnison. He really put a lot of faith into me, and he’s always encouraged me through sports, and in life, he’s just been a great person to know and to have as a coach

What’s your pregame routine or ritual that gets you locked in?

I would say that I really just try to focus and think about my task and what I’m supposed to do. I never think about how big or how small the other team is or how good they are. I just tell myself to play to my full ability, and I’ll be content with what I accomplish

What’s your proudest moment in sports — and why does it stand out?

Probably my first high school home run. It was on our own field, and I’m one of the few to do it, and it was also one of the few games my parents didn’t come to, so they never even saw it

What are your goals — both short-term and long-term — in your sport or beyond?

To eventually make it into college through one of my sports and potentially make it my career

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you — on or off the field?

I never work out during sports seasons; the only time I ever work out is during my off-season.
