Final week of the regular season already? Doesn’t seem possible. Plenty of quality matches on the schedule to get prepared for the postseason run. Can I interest anyone in a SAC regular season championship match?

  1. Carroll (26-3): The Chargers continue to hold the top spot in our poll after being pushed to a fifth set by Homestead last week in one of the best matches of the year. Another tough tasks lie ahead this week with Carroll hosting Angola on Thursday. How great have freshmen Cala Hafner and Katelyn Peters been? The future of Carroll volleyball is in good hands.
  2. Homestead (20-6): Consider teams 2-4 to all be in the same spot considering they’ve all beat up on each other. Speaking of that five set match — shoutout to Sparty. Fell behind 2-0 against Carroll and never stopped fighting. That is the making of a great team. It feels like Homestead may be hitting its peak at the perfect time of the year.
  3. Bellmont (21-7): After the disappointing tournament weekend against NorthWood and Angola, the Braves have been on fire. 21 consecutive set victories with a chance to win the NE8 title this week. Did you know Bellmont hasn’t lost a conference match since 2019? By the way, MaryKate Scheumann and Alyssa Gumbel are both hitting above .310 this year. Scheumann has the fourth most kills in the state with 455.
  4. Angola (23-3): Speaking of teams consistently winning their conference – the Hornets locked up a 10-0 NECC record for the 4th consecutive season last night with a 3-0 win over Eastside. Maya Harris’ 460 kills are third most in the state.
  5. Southwood (24-0): The Knights haven’t dropped a set since September 7th against Trinity Lutheran. That’s the only set they’ve lost all season. Southwood looks to cap a perfect season this week with matches at Northwestern and Lewis Cass on Tuesday and Thursday. Seems like 2A may now run through Wabash County.
  6. Leo (22-6): The Lions look to wrap up the NE8 year with wins over Columbia City and DeKalb to take 2nd in the conference in 2024. Emersyn Weaver surpassed 300 kills on the season last night against Carroll, but the more impressive thing for Weaver is her hitting percentage is up nearly 20 points from a year ago. Leo vs. Angola on October 17th to begin sectional play.
  7. Concordia (13-11): The SAC is well within reach for the Cadets this week. Concordia travels to Northrop Thursday to close its conference season, but hosts Bishop Dwenger (6-0) on Tuesday. Senior night and a chance to spoil Dwenger’s SAC championship hopes? Sounds like an intriguing week.
  8. South Adams (23-4): Boy oh boy is that Woodlan sectional going to be fun. The Starfires get rival Adams Central in the first round? Love it. First things first, take care of Union City and Delta to end the year.
  9. Bishop Dwenger (14-8): Three matches this week for the Saints but the highlight obviously comes Tuesday night at The Cage. Can Dwenger win its second straight SAC title, or will Concordia set itself up to win the title Thursday? If the Saints win, expect Jillian Tippman to be a big reason why.
  10. Adams Central (18-7): The Jets will be thinking revenge from now until October 17th. AC and South Adams have split their six sets this year, which adds even more intrigue for me on how that sectional match plays out. Maci Henry will have to be a strong force from start to finish for AC to prevail.
