Teams are starting to gear up for postseason play as the IHSAA state tournament pairings will be announced on Sunday, October 1st at 7:00 PM. FYI – ranking teams 3-10 put my head in a blender this week.
- Angola: The Hornets improved to 21-0 this past week with seven wins! Angola has dropped just four sets all year long. The winner of the NECC will be determined Tuesday night when Angola travels to Churubusco.
- Bellmont: The Braves remain #1 in the Z-Ratings for 3A with all the great wins on their resume. Bellmont improved to 3-0 in the NE8 with straight-set wins over East Noble and Leo. A pair of conference road games await in week 7.
- Carroll: Ranked 10th overall in the Z-Ratings, Carroll boats an 18-5 overall record. The 2-1 loss to Homestead back in early August has a chance to be erased on Thursday night at home. Like I said earlier, teams 3-10 are all similar in the sense they are all high-quality teams with a few flaws.
- Homestead: Sparty went 2-3 on the week, but all those losses came against top #25 teams in the state. It’s hard to fault Homestead for a loss to Hamilton Southeastern when the Royals are a heavy favorite to win the 4A crown. Spartans face South Side and Northrop early this week before traveling to the Carroll Thursday night at 7.
- Concordia: The Cadets have been in pretty much every match this year, and they did lead Angola 2-0 at home before the Hornets came back to win. Cienna Lapsley’s play on the front row and her importance to the Cadets hasn’t been talked about enough. Concordia and Carroll square off Monday night on Summit City Sports!
- Leo: The Lions fell to Bellmont Thursday, but Leo should be just fine for the rest of the season. Leo hosts East Noble and Huntington North this week.
- South Adams: Losing to Adams Central (15-9) in the ACAC Tournament wasn’t how the Starfires wanted to end the weekend, but they beat Woodlan in the match prior. South Adams is now 22-3 with another matchup against the Warriors Tuesday night in Berne.
- Woodlan: A chance to avenge that weekend loss to South Adams awaits for this very experienced Warriors squad. Lauren Snyder is averaging nearly four kills per set!
- Churubusco: The Eagles have a chance to take down our top team AND win the NECC on Tuesday night at home. Indiana University volleyball commit Ella Boersema surpassed 1,000 career kills Wednesday against Canterbury, and has her team rolling. Busco has won 14 in a row but gets its toughest test by far with Angola on Tuesday.
- Blackhawk Christian: Abbie Cresse and company still have Carroll and Bishop Dwenger on the schedule before the end of the season. Blackhawk will be happy to face 1A competition again once we hit October 10th.
