THE SWAMI SCALE
- SNIDER (8-1): The Panthers stay atop Mount Swami upon completion of the 2023 regular season.
- CARROLL (7-2): Chargy chasing a repeat trip to LOS (Lucas Oil Stadium — NOT line of scrimmage).
- HOMESTEAD (5-4): Sparty remains in the three-hole after surviving Bishop Luers last week. Whew!
- LEO (7-2): The Lions got a favorable draw, traveling to 1-8 South Side tonight in an easy 4A opener.
- EAST NOBLE (7-2): The Knights continue to creep up the Swam’s slithery slope; at NH tonight.
- BISHOP LUERS (6-3): OK, Kendallvillians – I heard your plea. Finally, you’re ahead of these Knights.
- NEW HAVEN (8-1): Either the Bulldogs are a collective sleeping giant, or they’re sound asleep.
- ADAMS CENTRAL (9-0): The Flying Jets have one solitary mission: beat the Indy Lutheran Saints.
- WEST NOBLE (9-0): Yates, Pruitt and the boys are seeking the program’s first-ever sectional title.
- WAYNE (5-4): Look who’s back in the Swami’s good graces. That’s right – the Fightin’ Haydocks.
CLASS 4A (SECTIONAL 17)
HOBART (7-2) at NEW PRAIRIE (7-2): This is a Bob Blackster Special. Originally, I had the Brickies by a kicky here, but I’m flipping the script and taking the Cougars by a sixer. A straight tuddy, B-squared.
SWAMI SAYS: New Prairie by 6
CLASS 4A (SECTIONAL 19)
WAYNE (5-4) at BISHOP DWENGER (4-5): The Saints are missing several key players, especially in the rushing department. Wayne has to be considered a fave in this one, right? Wrong. BD boys by a field goal.
SWAMI SAYS: Dwenger by 3
DEKALB (5-4) at ANGOLA (2-7): Could the Hornets win three straight after starting the season 0-7? Heck yes they could. But I’m still going with the Barons tonight, though I do think it comes down to the wire.
SWAMI SAYS: DeKalb by 4
EAST NOBLE (7-2) at NEW HAVEN (8-1): The Bulldogs are limping into this one and few outside of the 7-7-4 believe they have a snowball’s chance in H-E-double hockey sticks. That’s Gehenna, folks.
SWAMI SAYS: East Noble by 10
LEO (7-2) at SOUTH SIDE (1-8): Seven years ago the Archers went all DJT to Leo’s HRC, upsetting the heavily favored Lions 33-9 at home. Will there be a repeat tonight? Not even if you applied Bidenomics.
SWAMI SAYS: Leo by 42
CLASS 4A (SECTIONAL 20)
COLUMBIA CITY (5-4) at HUNTINGTON NORTH (1-8): The Eagles have had their wings clipped in recent weeks, having lost four straight contests after a 5-0 beginning. Tonight, CC flushes its immediate past.
SWAMI SAYS: Columbia City by 27
KOKOMO (7-2) at JAY COUNTY (4-5): JC got a tough draw, no doubt, but the Patriots have pride dammit. Still, Kokomo has ‘kats, as in wild ones, and that’s good enough for me. Kokomo’s no Jokomo!
SWAMI SAYS: Kokomo by 35
CLASS 3A (SECTIONAL 26)
JIMTOWN (4-5) at FAIRFIELD (5-4): Man, I’d love to take the Falcons in this one because I don’t like the Jimmies – at all. If they were from Richardtown, would they be the Dickies? Or Richies? Who knows.
SWAMI SAYS: Jimtown by 7
KNOX (9-0) at LAKELAND (6-3): Something tells me the Showtime Lakers are in this one until the very end. In fact, I’m seeing “Magic Man” Mickem on a sweet feed from “Hollywood” Holbrook late. The Upset Special.
SWAMI SAYS: Lakeland by 1
MISH. MARIAN (5-4) at WEST NOBLE (9-0): The Chargers appear to be on a date with destiny, seeking the program’s first-ever sectional title. I don’t think Jesus’ mom – no matter how awesome she is – gets in the way.
SWAMI SAYS: West Noble by 3
CLASS 3A (SECTIONAL 27)
YORKTOWN (4-5) at CONCORDIA (0-9) I like the fight I saw from these youthful Cadets last Friday night in their loss to BD. Will it translate into an upset here over the Yorkies? Unfortunately, no, it won’t.
SWAMI SAYS: Yorktown by 28
DELTA (5-4) at NORWELL (3-6): The Knights aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet on the 2023 campaign; instead, they’re whispering ‘Bonjour,’ as in senior RB Tim Bonjour’s 203 rushing yards last week. Come on, Knights!
SWAMI SAYS: Delta by 7
BELLMONT (0-9) at GARRETT (4-5): With a win in this contest the ‘Roaders will find themselves at .500 this late in the season for the first time since the 2017 campaign. I see no reason why the G-men don’t get it done.
SWAMI SAYS: Garrett by 19
HERITAGE (8-1) at WOODLAN (2-7): The season went sideways in a hurry for the Warriors, especially after junior RB Drew Fleek suffered an injury. My crystal balls were hoping he’d make a comeback tonight.
SWAMI SAYS: Heritage by 35
CLASS 2A (SECTIONAL 35)
WABASH (2-7) at EASTSIDE (6-3): Were the Beastsiders resting some folks last week? Or were they flat-out stung in the keister by Angola’s Hornets? Either way, I’m seeing a blazing response tonight on the scoreboard.
SWAMI SAYS: Eastside by 36
BISHOP LUERS (6-3) at CHURUBUSCO (2-7): The Eagles got the unfortunate draw of opening with sectional-fave Luers. The Knights have a huge edge in the speed department. They don’t call it Turtletown for nothing.
SWAMI SAYS: Luers by 45
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS (0-9) at CENTRAL NOBLE (3-6): The middlemen of nobility got their first victory this season over The Heights – 52-zip in Week Four. Will the Cougs replicate the feat tonight? Yes, but not as bigly.
SWAMI SAYS: Central Noble by 39
CLASS 2A (SECTIONAL 36)
BLUFFTON (7-2) at ALEXANDRIA (8-1): Somehow, I’m seeing the Tigers going all Lucky Luciano on Alexandria. I don’t care how good looking she might be, there’s no way B-town overlooks this foxy lady. No way!
SWAMI SAYS: Bluffton by 7
CLASS 1A (SECTIONAL 44)
NORTH MIAMI (1-8) at SOUTHERN WELLS (1-8): This one could go either way, but I’ve gotta go with the Raiders from Southern Wells. Why? Because I’m a believer that a Raider should defeat a Warrior. No matter what.
SWAMI SAYS: Southern Wells by 2
SOUTH ADAMS (6-3) at ADAMS CENTRAL (9-0): Wouldn’t it be great if these two teams could meet in the postseason when they’re both at their apex? Instead, this one appears to be another AC annihilation.
SWAMI SAYS: Adams Central by 41
FREMONT (3-6) at SOUTHWOOD (4-5): Southwood isn’t as strong as its been in recent seasons, but the Knights still have too much firepower for the up-and-coming Eagles (winners of two straight). Southwood survives.
SWAMI SAYS: Southwood by 14
