2019 SAC Holiday Tournament Central Day 2 – Girls

#3 South Side vs. #6 Bishop Dwenger, 9:00 a.m.

These two teams come in rested after not having to play in Thursday’s opening round and could make for an up and down the court game. South Side has an inside/out game, unlike most teams. With the skill, shooting and quickness of Olivia Smith and Jaci Jones in the backcourt plus the size and skill down low of Alaya Chapman and Lamyia Woodson you have something that can be great. When clicking on all cylinders this team can make that run. Bishop Dwenger is led by Molly Ream who does everything well and has that toughness you need in a point guard and a leader who can show what it takes to pull the upset over the Archers. When Dwenger is forcing turnovers and active defensively is when they are at their best and that starts with Ream. The Saints will go deep into the bench but will need Carissa Wiegman and Maggie Cheever to come up big on the boards and down low for Dwenger to advance.

Match up to look for: Olivia Smith (South Side) and Molly Ream (Bishop Dwenger)

#1 Homestead vs #8 Snider, 12:00 p.m.

Snider is coming off the opening round game against Wayne and Payton Gorman had another big game. She made her way to a 20 point game and her defensive intensity was next level. the rest of the Panthers matched that intensity and no other place was it shown more than on the glass. Samantha Kabisch and Marqheisha Weeks gave Snider extra possessions and picked up fouls on Wayne at will. They will need that to continue plus must get out to good start against the #1 seed in the tourney. Homestead enters this year’s tournament as the clear favorite to win the title and there are many factors why. Sydney Graber has continued to improve her game and the proof; 17 points and 9 rebounds per game through the first 10 games. With her outside/inside game to go along with the versatility and skill level of Ayanna Patterson and you might have the best duo in the state. Add in Rylie Parker, Grace Sullivan, and Amber Austin and you might have the TEAM in the state.

Match up to look for: Sydney Graber (Homestead) and Payton Gorman (Snider)

#2 Carroll vs #7 Northrop, 4:00 p.m.

Carroll has one of the deepest rosters in the SAC and has a pair of guards that can take over a game. Olivia Hoeppner and Emily Parrett both put constant pressure on the opposition both offensively and defensively and will take advantage of any opportunity given to them. Also, the steady and experienced play of Delane Sheets and Malia Williams will need to be just that plus the length of Jasmine Anderson and continued growth of the freshman will be key for a run in this year’s tourney. Northrop has an easy win over North Side to open their tournament but now face a really good squad in Carroll. The Bruins, have of course two top players in Destiny Jackson and TiAuna White but will need the constant defensive presence and turnover forcing ability of the guards in J’Asia Scott, Kayla Warfield, Jasmine Perry, and Amanda Thatcher. If Northrop can hit some shots from deep then I believe they can pull the upset win.

Match up to look for: Emily Parrett (Carroll) and TiAuna White (Northrop)
