Sims, Defense, Young Talent Have Panthers Surging Ahead
After three straight losing seasons, Snider’s girls’ basketball team has won 21 games since Akilah Sims took over as head coach. They went 13-8 last year, and they are currently on a seven-game winning streak. The Panthers’ record sits at 8-2. They also have beaten quality opponents such as Fishers, North Central, and Class 3A Sectional Champ Angola.
Defense has been one of Snider’s strengths this year. The most points they’ve given up was 57 against Fishers. Four Panthers are averaging multiple steals per game.
Snider has gotten production from seniors and underclassmen. Sophomores Destini Craig and Jordyn Poole are double-digit scorers, as is senior Jyah Lovett, who transferred from California. Craig and Lovett are also the team’s leading rebounders, and Poole leads them in assists. All of those athletes are great defenders as well.
